Pandan leaves have been used for centuries in Southeast Asian cuisine. They are believed to have originated in Madagascar, but are now grown in many tropical regions around the world. Pandan leaves were first introduced to the Americas in the early 1800s, and are now used in a variety of dishes in Caribbean and Latin American cuisine.

Health Benefits

Pandan leaves are a good source of vitamins A and C, as well as fiber. Vitamin A is essential for good vision, skin health, and immune function. Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps protect the body from damage caused by free radicals. Fiber is important for digestive health and can help to lower cholesterol levels.

Cooking Recipe

Here is a simple recipe for pandan chicken:

  • 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 8 pandan leaves, bruised
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, soy sauce, rice vinegar, water, honey, ginger, turmeric, and pandan leaves. Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and marinade and cook, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Serve over rice or noodles.

Pandan leaves are generally considered to be safe for most people. However, people with allergies to other tropical plants, such as pineapples or bananas, may also be allergic to pandan leaves.
