Galia melon is a hybrid melon developed in Israel in the 1970s. It is a cross between a cantaloupe and a honeydew melon, and has the best qualities of both. Galia melon was developed by Dr. Zvi Karchi at the Neve Yaar Research Center of the Agricultural Research Organization in Israel in the 1970s. He crossed a cantaloupe melon with a honeydew melon to create a melon with the best qualities of both. The melon was named after Dr. Karchi's daughter, Galia.
